In Jianghu, people experience love and hatred, joy and sorrow, reunion and parting they choose to adhere to the code of Xia (right the wrong) or deviate from it. Talking about Jianghu, literally meaning “lakes and rivers”, is the sub-community in which Wuxia stories are set. It is a unique genre and particular to Chinese culture, because Wuxia is rooted in the ancient Chinese social milieu in which a combination philosophy of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism prevailed. Then what is Wuxia? Wuxia, literally meaning “martial arts chivalry”, is a prominent component of popular culture of all Chinese-speaking areas. There is a saying goes that if there is a Chinese-speaking community, there is Wuxia.
